Ana was always the daring one. I should have known better than to doubt her, but when she floated the idea of a Halloween meet with one of her favourites in Bayswater, I hesitated. Vampires, costumes, fake fangs — it sounded more like a student party than something I’d enjoy. Still, she had that way of getting her way, and before I’d properly made up my mind we were already slipping into the hotel, the key card still warm in my hand from reception.
He was there on the bed, pretending to be asleep, and Ana’s grin spread wide, sharp as a cat about to pounce.
“Wow, this human looks tasty,” she announced, hamming it up.
I almost cracked right there. I’ve done my fair share of roleplay as an escort, but vampires? I was biting back laughter even as I tried to stay in character.
“Almost too tasty to… drink,” I blurted, the pause giving me away, but Ana didn’t miss a beat.
She straddled him, pressed a kiss to his lips, and his eyes flicked open like he’d been waiting for the cue. It should have been ridiculous, but something in the air shifted. The silliness blurred into heat — her fangs flashing as she told him what to do, the weight of her voice pulling me into it whether I liked it or not.
That’s Ana’s gift. She doesn’t ask; she directs. A look here, a touch there, and suddenly I was moving closer, caught in her orbit. She kissed me, and the laughter we’d been fighting gave way to something else.
The client was less convincing, of course — bless him, he wasn’t the actor type. But he followed her lead, obedient, eager, which was enough. And maybe that was the charm of it: none of us trying to be perfect, just playing out the fantasy until it became real in its own crooked way.
By the end we were tangled across the sheets, limbs everywhere, hair sticking, laughter spilling into the pillows. I caught Ana’s eye and shook my head, half-ashamed at how much I’d enjoyed myself.
“This is the best Halloween of my life,” I muttered, which set us all off laughing again, the sound muffled into the mattress of that Bayswater hotel.
